An Integrated App for the Telecom Industry

For the past few months, I have been working on an application with the objective of integrating the key dimensions of the telecom industry under one single portal. The idea is to get a complete view of all aspects of Indian Telecom from a holistic point of view so that we can not only dig down into details but see through the past clearly, its impact on our present, and what implications it will have in the future. With this intent, I wrote this application (click here).

The Code

The code for this application is written in Python and is supported by the streamlit library. It is code that runs into 7000 lines and is freely available for anyone to view on Git Hub. Since I am not a professional programmer, pardon my inefficiencies, and the time that I took for this first attempt (daily work for more than 2 months).

The Application

Spectrum Map — Frequency Layout (Screenshot)

The application is structured in four dimensions which are further subdivided into features, subfeatures, and options. Visuals have been kept deliberately as heatmaps — with an add-on dimension of tooltips for the user to get further insight into the data without having to go back and forth between charts. The dimension “Spectrum Map” has the latest spectrum information for all the players — driven down to the level of the finest granularity possible. The user can overlay operators on top of each other, to see how the combination of them appears graphically. This will enable the user to drive down insights which otherwise was impossible given how scattered this information is spread out all over the place. Similarly, other dimensions like “Auction Data” provides a deep dive into all the past auctions that have taken place at the minutest level of granularity. Also, one can view the auction from various angles by selecting a specific subfeature from the dropdown menu.

The Flexibility

The application has the flexibility to filter data using the slider and various dropdown menus. Also, I have added an option to view some of the financial metrics in dollars, so that one can compare the numbers on apples to apples basis given low inflation levels in dollar denomination.

The Future

I will make all attempts to keep the site as updated as possible. I will also try to improve upon the charts based on your valuable feedback and as I gather more skills in visual coding. I also hope that this serves the purpose for which I was encouraged to make this attempt. Looking forward to your suggestions, and thanks in advance and best regards.
